Prescription Drug Costs: Striking a Balance Between Innovation and Affordability

We are living in a new “golden age” of prescription drug innovation. Over the last several years, advancements in biologics, as well as the development of cell and gene therapies offer tremendous promise for extending people’s quality of life and even curing debilitating diseases. The downside is that these are among the most expensive drug therapies on the market with more to come.

Home-Based Care: What Does the Future Hold?

One hundred years ago, it was common for doctors to visit patients at home. Over time, house calls and other forms of home-based care became less popular as patients increasingly received care in hospitals and other institutional settings. While most care now takes place in medical facilities, in recent years there has been a resurgence in home-based care as a convenient and cost-effective way to provide treatment for patients.

Home-based Care: Recognizing a Time and Place

The Regence Health Policy Center (RHPC) strongly supports policies to increase patient access to home-based care (HBC) services, and we have highlighted the numerous positive impacts that HBC can have on patients. However, we also recognize that there are circumstances where home-based care may not be the best choice and it is more appropriate to treat a patient in a facility-based setting.

Don't Sunset Affordability: Why Congress Needs to Extend Marketplace Subsidies Now

One of the constructive legacies from the COVID-19 pandemic is the historic improvement in the number of Americans with health insurance. The American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) made critical investments to make health insurance more affordable for people seeking coverage outside the workplace.
